What is a Meter Point Reference Number?
Your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) is what suppliers use to identify the gas meter at your property. No matter which gas supplier you have, your MPRN will always stay the same and it’s sometimes referred to as your ‘M number’.
Where can I find my MPRN?
The easiest way to find your MPRN is to look at a recent bill – it will be marked as the Meter Point Reference Number. It will never contain letters, and MPRN’s are always between 6-10 digits long. It’s no good looking on your box, as you won’t find it there.
If your gas is delivered via an independent gas transporter (IGT), your MPRN will start with 74 or 75 – bear in mind though, it may be more expensive to receive gas via an IGT.
Here’s an example of where you can find your MPRN on a bill:
I don’t have a bill – how do I find my MPRN?
No problem! Even if you don’t know who supplies your gas, you can find this out as well as your MPRN using the Find My Supplier tool, or by calling 0870 608 1524.
Is my MPRN the same as my meter serial number?
Not quite… your meter serial number (sometimes called the meter ID or ‘MSN’) is used to identify your meter specifically.
You can find your MSN either on a recent bill or on the meter itself – it’s normally right by the barcode.
